Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 The first night of the shoot. Everyone was able to make it including Tony whom I just met four days earlier. Tony just started at my place of work just days before this shoot! He showed alot of interest after the guy he replaced backed out, and did a fine job for a last second fill in! We shot all the beginning living room scenes, Map scenes and most of the basement scenes. The night went flawless except for the candle intro. Otherwise it was a very magical night!Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001 Saturday morning, We were scheduled to shoot all of the packing and outside scenes. The weather was shitty while I was setting up and on top of it all everyone was late except for Brian. David and Jamie finally arrived around noon and then the rain cleared. As we began shooting my neighbor decided he wanted to mow his lawn which delayed the shoot even further. Tony never did showup so I had to change the script not to include him. (Which was a big change!) Finally we were able to get the shots we needed and just in time because it started raining like an S.O.B!!
Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001 The Big Day! The day we head for Watersmeet. I stayed up most of the night packing and Double checking everything. Eveyone showed up at around 4:30am and we were on the road by 5:00am. Jamie at the last second volunteered to drive her car which really helped out alot. Otherwise with six people and all that equipment would of made shooting in the cars nearly impossible.(Thanks Jamie!) We only got lost twice during our seven hour drive (It was only supposed to take five!) After we reached the halfway point I began shooting the car scenes while jumping back and forth from car to car. That also helped slow us down a bit. We also shot the outside gas station scenes during our trip up. Then Tony starts talking about a new job he was offered and was going to take asap. I was trying not to take it seriously, I didn't want to believe it! When we finally reached watersmeet at around noon and headed straight to Robbins pond road "the home of the light" to shoot the setup scenes. Our Check in time to the motel wasn't until 4:00pm so we hung out at the casino and had something to eat for an hour. Randy Fox and his girlfriend Kim were scheduled to meet us at the casino. But as of check in time they still have not arrived. After we unpacked we shot the hallway scene and them entering the room, I also shot some scenes of them inside the room but scrapped them because they slowed the tempo. Randy showed up at around Five pm and we went back to "Robbins Pond" for the light shots. I drove up with Randy and Kim and gave a camera to the four actors and just told them to play the part of the script. Of course it started raining and there was mud everywhere. But the rain did stop and we were able to get a little shooting in even though other curious light watchers started crowding the area. The light was out and we were able to capture it but it was way the hell out in the distance! I would say atleast ten miles from where we setup. Virtually impossible for David and Tony to walk towards it and make any ground. We all then decided to go back to the motel and wait for it to get completely dark before we would continue. Hoping by then it would get closer. When we returned Three hours later I thought we just entered Mardis Gras! It was just jammed packed with people (just one big party) It was so crowded we had a hell of a time finding a parking place (and Robbins Pond is a long ass road). Finally we found one and hiked quite a ways to the observation sight Which by then everyone didn't feel like shooting anymore and they all just joined in with the party. The Police were there carding everyone, radios were blasting and the light was hardly visible. It was a mess! It wasn't a complete disaster however, We were able to get some decent interviews from some of the bystanders. Once back at the motel I forced the cast and myself to shoot the toast celebration scene but even that became a disaster when Randy stormed out for some reason. I then went outside for a walk and sobbed like a baby and didn't stop for the next two days! It was a very, very long drive home the next morning! I had no idea how I was going to fix this!! I almost gave up!!!
Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001 Well it happened! Tony quit his job and I have not seen him since! We've had numerous conversations since then over the phone and had scheduled shoots with him, but he never showed up for any of them! Time to change the script, AGAIN!!!......More Sobbing!....BooHoo!!........But I'll work something out, I always do!
Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001 I scheduled everyone to shoot the "looking for Tony" and "david disapearing" scenes up at Mauthe lake state park where my parents were halloween camping. David and Brian showed up and Jamie was going to be a little late. While waiting we went over to another campsite where they were having a halloween party. At around 10:00 pm we all went back to my parents campsite and Jamie was there but she had already put on her halloween costume because she thought I called off the shoot. But I must admit she did look stunning, even as a zombie!!! Nothing done on this night!
Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001 Back at Mauthe lake state park, this time I was able to get everyone there on time. I figured out a way to salvage the Watersmeet disaster. Like I stated in an earlier post we were able capture some decent footage of the light, and tonight I had Brian, Jamie and David do a voice over with David on the two way radios and everything! "Note: We used David's radios, I lost one of mine up at Watersmeet" (Thanks David!) But It turned out pretty well, I was satisfied with it. After the taping of the V.O. we drove a couple miles into the national forest and shot the "Looking for Tony" "David disapearing" and "Brian searching for both of them" scenes. So far so good!! However time is running out, It could snow any day now, and snow would be bad! Very BAD!!
Sorry! Unable to log anymore of the journal in fear of giving away to much of the plot......Stay Tuned!!
